Look Good Feel Better cancer charity- What do you know about us?

Look Good Feel Better

If we’ve ever spoken, chances are I’ve found a way to slip Look Good Feel Better cancer charity into the conversation! I am so proud to be part of this incredible charity, supporting women (and men too) through cancer treatment.

We are based in over 160 hospitals nationwide and about to celebrate our 26th birthday – how incredible is that! We offer FREE confidence boosting skincare and makeup workshops to ladies that are going through treatment for any kind of cancer (and up to 1 year after).  The workshops are run by lovely volunteers and all attendees receive a generously filled makeup bag, worth over £350.  Products are donated by many of the industry leading cosmetic and skincare houses, including Dior, Clinique and Lancome (to name only a few).

We also run workshops for men and teens going through treatment too!

These workshops are really helpful, fun and friendly. I highly recommend them to anyone going through treatment. You can find your closest one by clicking on this link www.lookgoodfeelbetter.co.uk

How I became involved

I started volunteering for LGFB about 3 years ago now. I started volunteering because I work with a lot of breast cancer patients and I wanted to be able to offer support, beyond the treatments I offer.  I really enjoyed volunteering and loved seeing the transformations during the sessions, the friendships that were formed and the confidence that blossomed.  It’s such a wonderful thing to experience.

Whilst I was volunteering at Reading (I live in Alton),  I noticed there were a lot of ladies from Alton and Basingstoke in the sessions.  I really felt that it was too far for ladies to be travelling for the workshops, especially during treatment.  So I decided to make it my mission to get LGFB into Basingstoke – and that’s exactly what happened!  It took a year of planning before we were ready to launch at The Candover Clinic in November 2018.

I was over the moon to be appointed as the Regional Coordinator for Basingstoke and I’ve loved running the bi-monthly sessions ever since.  I am also very excited to be launching into Winchester in August 2019 – where I’ll be running the sessions from the BMI Hospital there.

When are the sessions held?

Both the Basingstoke and Winchester sessions are held on a Wednesday, on a bi-monthly basis.  Basingstoke is 5.30 – 7.30pm and Winchester is 2-4pm.   If you click HERE you can find out the dates they are being held and book on. If you’re not local to Basingstoke or Winchester, then you’ll also find a full list of all of the hospitals we are in – I’m positive there will be one close to you!

Can you help?

Would you love to get involved as a volunteer? Well you can!  If you are beauty, skincare or makeup trained and you’re interested in volunteering, then please get in touch with me.  You can either contact me via my website, or call/text on 07879998080.   You can come along as an observer to see if it’s something you’d like to do, before committing.  I’m confident that you’ll love it – it’s up there as my favourite 2 hours of my working month!

Please spread the word, the more people that know about us at #LGFB the better! Thanks in advance for your support, Nikki x
