Acne Scar Treatments

Do you have acne scarring on your face or back that you’d love to improve? Find out how you can improve your skin and regain your confidence.

‘Acne scar treatments’ is one of the most common search terms on Google, when it comes to skin concerns. That’s because so many of us have experienced acne in our younger years, or increasingly in adulthood.  Adult acne has increased significantly in the last decade, which I believe is a direct result of our lifestyles (read stress!).  Discover treatments that can help you improve the look of your acne scarring below.  If you are experiencing acne breakouts the please click HERE to discover how I can help you.

Acne Scar Treaments

Acne scar treatments take a number of forms and the right treatment will depend on the levels of scarring you have, and the results you’d like to achieve.

The important thing when it comes to acne scar treatments, is that your acne is under control. If you need help with this, then please get in touch.

Your skin is entirely unique to you, so I don’t have a set approach that I use. I recommend booking a consultation, so that I can assess your skin.  We will discuss treatments options, products and lifestyle factors that will give you the best possible results and agree on a suitable program for you.

Radiofrequency Microneedling

Radiofrequency microneedling has fast become my ‘go to’ for acne scar treatments. It surpasses the results from fractional laser (my old ‘favourite’) as the results are much better, quicker and with far less downtime.

Acne scar treatments have previously been quite aggressive, with considerable discomfort and downtime, but RF microneedling has changed that. It breaks down the scar tissue, boosts collagen and elastin, helps with discolouration and post inflammatory pigmentation, AND it tightens and leaves the skin – creating a more even and smooth surface.

Chemical Skin Peels

Chemical Skin Peels are be really effective at treating acne and acne scarring. In particular, when it comes to acne scarring, chemical skin peels can be very effective at reducing post inflammatory hyperpigmentation (discolouration in the scar tissue), whilst helping to stimulate healthy, fresh skin. They do not improve scarring to any great degree, but are a great option for post inflammatory hyperpigmentation, and redness.

Chemical skin peels are also great if you still experience outbreaks from time to time, they can help to reduce inflammation in the skin and promote healing. There is a misconception that chemical skin peels are aggressive, but there are actually some very calming products available.

The benefit of chemical skin peels is that they can help to remove the dead skin cells on the surface, where bacteria thrive. They can calm inflammation and promote new cell turnover, helping your skin to repair and regenerate.  To learn more about chemical skin peels you can click HERE.

Acne Scar Treatments Microneedling

I am a huge fan of microneedling, in varying forms as really this is where my fascination around the skins ability to heal began. I always feel that this treatment is a wonderful reminder of how clever the human body is.

Microneedling has long been my ‘go-to’ as an acne scars treatment. It involves creating micro punctures in the skin, to cause a minor trauma. In response to the trauma, your skin starts to produce fresh collagen and elastin, helping to plump the skin, even out the texture and create a youthful and smooth appearance to the skin. There are also some amazing serums that can help to boost skin healing and quality.

You would need a course of 4-8 treatments, spaced 4-6 weeks apart for optimum results.

LED Light Therapy Treatments

I may recommend LED Light Therapy as one of your acne scar treatments.  In my opinion this is an underrated and highly effective treatment.

LED Light Therapy involves different wavelengths that penetrate the skin and have an effect at a cellular level. This is much deeper than any products can go.  The LED wavelengths accelerate wound healing, boost collagen, even out skin tone and reduce inflammation in the skin.  Red Light Therapy is fantastic for collagen stimulation, wound healing and overall skin regeneration, whilst Blue Light Therapy is highly effective an managing outbreaks and active acne, as it kills bacteria.  LED Light Therapy is a great long term treatment to help keep future outbreaks to a minimum.

Products & Supplements

Acne scar treatments alone will make a huge difference to your skin.   I believe in a holistic approach to treating your skin, helping you to get the best possible results both now and in the long term. So I often recommend a combined approach to treating your skin. We’ll need to discuss a long term plan to treat your acne scarring and also, to minimise further outbreaks in the future.

You can boost your results through a simple skin care routine and in some cases, anti-inflammatory supplements.  This is something we will discuss in detail, as I have a holistic approach to treating your skin, by combining my ‘inside out and outside in’ approach.

Your skin is unique to you, so there isn’t a ‘one size fits all’ approach, we will work together to find a simple and sustainable treatment program that will help you achieve your desired results.

How can I help you?

I have been passionate about skin (read ‘obsessed’) for the best part of a decade. Whilst I love products & treatments, I know that there is a lot more to beautiful skin than these alone.

As a qualified Nutritional Therapist, I know that what you put into your body is equally as powerful and effective as what you put onto your skin.

I have also personally experienced many skin challenges during my stressful corporate career and in more recent years, hormone related skin issues. So I have experienced first hand the effects of stress, insomnia, poor nutrition and hormone imbalances – and it’s not fun is it!

My goal is to help you to manage your skin, improve your well-being and energy levels, plus learn how to look after your skin for the long term, in a simple, sustainable way – with that little bit of luxury that we all deserve!

I know that sometimes the thought of making changes to our routines and lifestyle can be daunting, but I promise you there’s nothing radical here, it’s about helping you to create small, incremental changes for the long term. I have nearly 15 years experience as a coach, helping individuals to achieve their goals, so rest assured I will be there to help you through your transformation.

Some frequently asked questions

Minute sections of the skin are targeted with laser light, which penetrates into the tissue, causing small columns of thermal damage which in turn stimulates significant collagen renewal. The surrounding non affected areas of skin aid the body’s natural recovery process, allowing dramatic results without significant downtime

The skin is cleansed and the hand piece is moved over the skin delivering tiny microscopic laser beams. Typical treatment times vary depending on the skin condition and the area being treated, but will range from 10 to 40 minutes. After treatment the skin is cooled. Protective eye wear must be worn during treatment

Treatment is suitable for most people and highly recommended for individuals wanting a brighter, more even skin tone, smoother skin texture with improved skin elasticity, a reduction of wrinkles, reduced pore size and improvement to scars (including acne scars) and stretch marks

You will experience a mild sunburnt sensation for a few hours after treatment and the skin may be red for 1 to 2 days. This is a normal sign that the skin is healing at a deep level. Swelling is likely but minimal, and resolves in 2 to 3 days. As the healing process occurs, your skin may have a ‘bronzed’ appearance that lasts from 3 to 10 days, depending on the treatment level. Your skin will naturally exfoliate and may ake as if you had mild sunburn. How many treatment

The skin that surrounds the pigmented lesion may become red immediately after treatment. Most people experience no other side effects and the redness usually disappears within hours to a few days. Very rarely a small blister may form or the skin may become temporarily lighter or darker.

The number of treatments will depend on the type and size of the pigmented lesion but typically 3 to 5 sessions are required at 2 to 6 week intervals.

LED Light Therapy is suitable for almost everyone, with the exception of pregnancy, breast feeding and cancer treatments.  There is zero downtime from LED Light Therapy treatments and no known side effects.

Price is on assessment, as it will depend on the area to be treated.  Prices start from £75 per session for a small area and are £225 for lower face and £295 for full face.

This treatment is also suitable for other areas of the body that have scar tissue and stretchmarks.  Please book in for a consultation and I will be able to advise you on the exact cost for your procedures.

Are you ready to transform your skin and well-being?

My skin! At last I have found a treatment that actually works. I found myself looking at my skin a week after my first treatment and noticing how much softer the lines and wrinkles were. I couldn't believe it. After my initial course of treatment I decided to have a monthly maintenance treatment, because I love it so much (plus I like to catch up with Nikki). Thank you for helping me look less haggered - haha! x
