Five Common Skin Care Mistakes

Scar improvement is a topic so close to my heart, having lived with significant scarring since the age of 11. I know first hand the impact that living with scars can have on your life, which is why I’ve dedicated my career to supporting others with scars. Whilst it’s not possible to remove scars completely, scar improvement IS achievable, so you can feel confident in your skin, and get on with the important business of enjoying your life!
One of the most important things to remember is that we are talking about scar improvement, and not full removal. Unfortunately, there is no way to completely remove scars – and anyone that tells you they can, isn’t being honest with you.
Scar improvement treatments can help to make a significant difference to the look and feel of your scars, but scar improvement is about more than just treatments alone.
No two treatment programs are the same, as your scars are unique to you, and your skin is the largest organ of your body. I create a program that is unique to you, and we constantly monitor your progress as we go, to ensure you get the best possible results.
Scar improvement treatments can ultimately give you the confidence to get on with enjoying your life, rather than focusing on your scars. Get in touch to book a complementary consultation.
As I mentioned at the start, there isn’t a ‘one size fits all’ approach to scar improvement. Over the years, and having treated hundreds, if not into the thousands of clients, I have found that a combination of different microneedling treatments has given the best result.
I have previously used fractional laser and peels, but microneedling is hands down the most effective treatment, in my opinion. This isn’t the same type of needling that you’ll find in beauty salons, these are advanced medical skin needling techniques. Whilst skin pen type treatments are OK for very low level acne scarring, they will do very little for any other type of scarring.
We talk through the best treatment options for you, at your consultation. And this is a work in progress, as I asses how your skin responds from treatment to treatment. A course of treatment is typically 5-8 sessions, spaced around 6 weeks apart.
Scar improvement treatments are one element of your scar improvement transformation program. Your skin is the largest organ of your body, and responds to everything from the inside out and outside in. With a background in nutritional therapy, we work together to look after your skin from the inside out and outside in.
By focusing on simple lifestyle factors, and nutrition, you can really maximise your results from treatment. This is really important, to ensure that your body is able to recover and heal from treatment as effectively and efficiently as possible – to ensure you get maximum results from your scar improvement treatments.
You can download my Ultimate Guides via the button below, one for scars and one for skin. They are packed with helpful information, on how to look after your skin.
As with all treatments, there are contraindications. If you have any long term medical conditions, please get in touch to enquire whether you are able to have treatment. Typically, scars will need to over a year old to be treated, to allow the body to finish the natural healing process. Most scars can be treated, with the exception of keloid and true hypertrophic scars. Sometimes, scars are mis-diagnosed as hypertrophic. Hypertrophic scars are raised, red scars that are inside the wound site boundary, Keloid scars are raised, red scars that grow outside the wound site.
Scars that are white and raised are not true hypertrophic scars, and these CAN be treated. The best thing to do, is to get in touch with me. If I am not able to help with your scars, I can recommend someone who may be able to .
This differs for everyone. Typically, as course of 5-8 treatments are needed, but some clients with lower level acne scarring or stretchmarks may only require 4. Equally, some clients will go on to have more than 8 treatments, if they have complex or significant scarring – although this is only a very small proportion of client.
Yes, the downtime is explained to you at your consultation, as it depends on which treatment you are having. Whilst downtime is minimal, there are factors you’ll need to take into account, such as sun exposure and avoiding swimming pools etc. Full pre/post treatment information is provided to you.
Price is on assessment, as I need to see the size and type of scar, before being able to quote. Prices start at £250 per treatment.
Yes, once you’ve had a course of scar improvement treatments, you do not need to return to maintenance. The exception to this is with stretchmarks. Further stretchmarks can appear when the skin is stretched, post treatment. As we can’t fully remove scar tissue, the skin will be vulnerable to further stretchmarks developing, should it be stretched in future.
I have dedicated my career to scar improvement. I have seen so many transformations over the years, and the difference it can make to lives is amazing. I know first hand, how much improving my own scars impacted my life.
As a qualified Nutritional Therapist, I understand that what you put into your body is equally as powerful and effective as what you put onto your skin. So we work on the inside out and outside in.

I have a small boutique clinic in Alton, Hampshire – which is right on the Hampshire / Surrey border. Farnham is only 10 miles in one direction, and Basingstoke around 11 miles in the other direction. I am also at the end of the line for direct trains in from London Waterloo (takes around 1 hour and 10 minutes). There is extremely cheap parking right around the corner and I’m a 5 minute walk from the train station.
