Scar Treatments

Yes, scar treatments really do exist! I’m so pleased to be able to tell you that there are treatments that can significantly improve your scar tissue and restore your confidence. So if you you have scarring that really affects your confidence and you’d love to do something about it, then read on!

My Story

I know how it feels to have scarring that affects your confidence. I took my first major knock at 11, when I was hit by a car and suffered (amongst other injuries) a severe head injury, leaving me with 22 stitches on my forehead.  I spent years wanting a skin graft and hid behind a fringe.

My other major scarring is on my knee, after 6 knee operations and enduring two bone and cartilage grafts – my knee was a mess. I never wore anything that exposed it.

Both of these scars really affected my confidence. They affected the choices I made for clothes and hair and made me feel anxious. So, I really empathise with you if you have scarring that affects you in this way, I truly do.

I was overcome with joy (and excitement) when I discovered scarring could be treated, during my initial training as a cosmetic and medical tattooist. I knew immediately this would be an area of specialism for me. My own experiences are the reason I am obsessed with skin and scar treatments. I can’t tell you how amazing it felt to wear shorts for the first time, after I treated my knee. My confidence was through the roof and frankly, it was a relief not to be in jeans in 30 degree heat in summer!

Read on to find out how you can improve your scarring and claim back your confidence!

RF Microneedling Scar Treatment

RF Microneedling (RF stands for radiofrequency) is taking scar improvement treatments to a whole new level.

I’ve long been a fan of microneedling, and treated many different types of scars with this treatment. Whether you have surgery scars, scars from injuries, self harm or burns, then microneedling is a very effective treatment.

The addition of RF (radiofrequency) into microneedling stimulates further collagen production in your skin, and it actually speeds up healing time. This is great news for you, as you’ll see even more improvements to your scars in a shorter period of time.

Find out more about RF Microneedling for scars in my blog post  HERE.

Scar Treatments

There are various scar treatments that are really effective, depending on the type of scarring you have, your skin type and your desired results.

I use both Lynton 3Juve fractional laser and Focus Dual , which combine advanced treatments for your scars. The scar treatments that may be suitable for you include RF microneedling, microneedling, fractional laser, IPL and chemcial skin peels. So you can see there are lots of different options to help you achieve results you’ll love.

Your skin is entirely unique to you, so I don’t have a set approach that I use. I recommend booking a consultation, so that I can assess your skin.  We will discuss treatments options, products and lifestyle factors that will give you the best possible results and agree on a suitable program for you.

Scar Treatments - 3Juve Laser

The Lynton 3Juve laser (CE Medical Certificated) is one of the most effective and safe lasers available in the industry, and wonderfully effective at treating different types of scar tissue.

Lynton have incredibly high standards and produce exceptional results, which is why they are my laser of choice. With over 25 years experience, it’s easy to see why they are the industry leader. They are so good that our own NHS use their lasers in clinical practice.

Fractional laser treatment is one of the most effective scar treatments available, alongside RF microneedling.  Significant collagen renewal is stimulated as the laser  penetrates the skin and causes minor thermal damage. In response to this minor controlled trauma, your skin will naturally produce fresh collagen, improving the texture of the skin considerably.

This treatment can also help to stimulate your natural melanin production too, helping your natural skin tone normalise.

Scar Treatments - Microneedling

I am a huge fan of microneedling, as really this is where my fascination around the skins ability to heal began. I always feel that this treatment is a wonderful reminder of how clever the human body is.

Microneedling is often referred to as ‘dry tattooing’. It involves creating micro punctures in the skin, to cause a minor trauma. In response to the trauma, your skin starts to produce fresh collagen and elastin, helping to plump the skin, even out the texture and create a youthful and smooth appearance to the skin.

You would need a course of 4-8 treatments, spaced 4-6 weeks apart for optimum results.

LED Light Therapy Treatments

I may recommend LED Light Therapy as an addition to scar treatments for the face.  Light Therapy is an underrated and highly effective treatment.

LED Light Therapy involves different wavelengths that penetrate the skin and have an effect at a cellular level. This is much deeper than any products can go.  The LED wavelengths accelerate wound healing, boost collagen, even out skin tone and reduce inflammation in the skin.  Red Light Therapy is fantastic for collagen stimulation, wound healing and overall skin regeneration.

How can I help you?

I have been passionate about skin (read ‘obsessed’) for the best part of a decade. Whilst I love products & treatments, I know that there is a lot more to beautiful skin than these alone.

As a qualified Nutritional Therapist, I know that what you put into your body is equally as powerful and effective as what you put onto your skin.

I have also personally experienced many skin challenges during my stressful corporate career and in more recent years, hormone related skin issues. So I have experienced first hand the effects of stress, insomnia, poor nutrition and hormone imbalances – and it’s not fun is it! I’ve also had injuries and surgeries that have left me with significant scarring, so I can empathise with how scarring affects your confidence and enjoyment of your life.

My goal is to help you achieve your skin goals, with a bespoke program that will give you results that I know you’ll love.

I know that sometimes the thought of making changes to our routines and lifestyle can be daunting, but I promise you there’s nothing radical here, it’s about helping you to create small, incremental changes for the long term. I have nearly 15 years experience as a coach, helping individuals to achieve their goals, so rest assured I will be there to help you through your transformation.

Are you ready to commit to take the next step?

Some frequently asked questions

That’s what you have me for! I recommend booking a consultation, so that I can assess your skin and we can discuss your skin goals. We will then go through treatment and program options that will help you achieve the best possible results.

Minute sections of the skin are targeted with laser light, which penetrates into the tissue, causing small columns of thermal damage which in turn stimulates significant collagen renewal. The surrounding non affected areas of skin aid the body’s natural recovery process, allowing dramatic results without significant downtime

The skin is cleansed and the hand piece is moved over the skin delivering tiny microscopic laser beams. Typical treatment times vary depending on the skin condition and the area being treated, but will range from 10 to 40 minutes. After treatment the skin is cooled. Protective eye wear must be worn during treatment

Treatment is suitable for most people and highly recommended for individuals. A patch test is required.

You will experience a mild sunburnt sensation for a ew hours after treatment and the skin may be red for 1 to 2 days. This is a normal sign that the skin is healing at a deep level. Swelling is likely but minimal, and resolves in 2 to 3 days. As the healing process occurs, your skin may have a ‘bronzed’ appearance that lasts from 3 to 10 days, depending on the treatment level.
Your skin will naturally exfoliate and may flake as if you had mild sunburn. How many treatments you need will depend on the area to be treated and the type of scar or burn.

LED Light Therapy is suitable for almost everyone, with the exception of pregnancy, breast feeding and cancer treatments.  There is zero downtime from LED Light Therapy treatments and no known side effects.

Price is on assessment, as it will depend on the area to be treated.  Prices start from £75 per session for a small area and up to £350 per session for a large area.

This treatment is also suitable for other areas of the body that have scar tissue and stretchmarks.  Please book in for a consultation and I will be able to advise you on the exact cost for your procedures.

My skin! At last I have found a treatment that actually works. I found myself looking at my skin a week after my first treatment and noticing how much softer the lines and wrinkles were. I couldn't believe it. After my initial course of treatment I decided to have a monthly maintenance treatment, because I love it so much (plus I like to catch up with Nikki). Thank you for helping me look less haggered - haha! x
