Treatments for Acne and Acne Scars

Treatments for acne and acne scars take a number of forms and approaches. Once I have carried out a full assessment, we will discuss the right treatment program for you, to help you manage your acne in the short and long term.

Your  treatment program will depend on the severity and type of your acne and whether it remains active, or you  experiences flare ups.

Our starting point will be to get your acne symptoms under control, before treating any scarring.

There are a number of factors that affect acne, which is something we will discuss in full.

Your skin is entirely unique to you, so I don’t have a set approach that I use. I recommend booking a consultation, so that I can assess your skin.  We will discuss treatments options, products and lifestyle factors that will give you the best possible results and agree on a suitable program for you.

Treatments for Acne

One of my favourite treatments for acne is  may recommend LED Light Therapy.   In my opinion this is an underrated and highly effective treatment.

LED Light Therapy involves different wavelengths that penetrate the skin and have an effect at a cellular level. This is much deeper than any products can go.  The LED wavelengths accelerate wound healing, boost collagen, even out skin tone and reduce inflammation in the skin.  Red Light Therapy is fantastic for collagen stimulation, wound healing and overall skin regeneration, whilst Blue Light Therapy is highly effective an managing outbreaks and active acne, as it kills bacteria.  LED Light Therapy is a great long term treatment to help keep future outbreaks to a minimum.

Acne Scar Treatments - Laser

Once your acne is under control, you will be able to start a treatment program for your acne scar.  Although you will find that your skin will improve considerably through the products and simple, sustainable lifestyle changes that will be part of your acne management program.

The Lynton 3Juve is my wonder machine! 3 lasers, that allow me to treat almost all skin conditions and concerns. The fractional laser is fantastic at improving scar tissue formed from acne. The IPL laser is very effective at treating any discolouration that you may have too. We will discuss a combined treatment program, to ensure you get the best possible results in both the short and long term.

Lynton 3Juve laser  is one of the most effective and safe lasers available in the industry. They have incredibly high standards and produce exceptional results, which is why they are my laser of choice. With over 25 years experience, it’s easy to see why they are the industry leader. They are so good that our own NHS use their lasers in clinical practice.

Acne Scar Treatments Microneedling

I am a huge fan of microneedling, as really this is where my fascination around the skins ability to heal began. I always feel that this treatment is a wonderful reminder of how clever the human body is.

Microneedling is often referred to as ‘dry tattooing’. It involves creating micro punctures in the skin, to cause a minor trauma. In response to the trauma, your skin starts to produce fresh collagen and elastin, helping to plump the skin, even out the texture and create a youthful and smooth appearance to the skin.

You would need a course of 4-8 treatments, spaced 4-6 weeks apart for optimum results.

Nutrition and Lifestyle

One of the key areas for managing your acne will be nutrition and lifestyle. There are so many factors that create inflammation in our bodies and these will undoubtedly be contributing towards your skin breakouts.

I’m going to start by saying that this doesn’t mean living like a saint!  We will look at your diet and identify simple changes that you can make to improve the quality of your skin and help you feel more energised and energetic.

As a Nutritional Therapist, I take a holistic approach when it comes to your skin. We will explore potential foods that you may be intolerant to and look at where you may benefit from adding in a supplement (where appropriate). This is about making simple changes that you will be able to sustain for the long term.

If we agree that you may have food allergies or intolerance’s that require specialist knowledge and support, I can refer you to my colleague Kaye, who is a registered Nutritionist.

Products & Supplements

Products and supplements play an important role in managing your acne symptoms and improving your skin. Unfortunately, many acne products create more harm than they do good. They are often very strong and strip your skin of natural essential oils and damage your skins natural barrier function. We will discuss suitable products to manage and strengthen your skin, through a simple, sustainable and effect program.

You can boost your results through a simple skin care routine and in some cases, anti-inflammatory supplements.  This is something we will discuss in detail. My philosophy is to provide a bespoke ‘inside out and outside in’ approach.

Your skin is unique to you, so there isn’t a ‘one size fits all’ approach, we will work together to find a simple and sustainable treatment program so that you feel confident in managing your skin now, and in the future.

How can I help you?

I have been passionate about skin (read ‘obsessed’) for the best part of a decade. Whilst I love products & treatments, I know that there is a lot more to beautiful skin than these alone.

As a qualified Nutritional Therapist, I know that what you put into your body is equally as powerful and effective as what you put onto your skin.

I have also personally experienced many skin challenges during my stressful corporate career and in more recent years, hormone related skin issues. So I have experienced first hand the effects of stress, insomnia, poor nutrition and hormone imbalances – and it’s not fun is it!

My goal is to help you to manage your skin, improve your well-being and energy levels, plus learn how to look after your skin for the long term, in a simple, sustainable way – with that little bit of luxury that we all deserve!

I know that sometimes the thought of making changes to our routines and lifestyle can be daunting, but I promise you there’s nothing radical here, it’s about helping you to create small, incremental changes for the long term. I have nearly 15 years experience as a coach, helping individuals to achieve their goals, so rest assured I will be there to help you through your transformation.

Are you ready to transform your skin and well-being?

My skin! At last I have found a treatment that actually works. I found myself looking at my skin a week after my first treatment and noticing how much softer the lines and wrinkles were. I couldn't believe it. After my initial course of treatment I decided to have a monthly maintenance treatment, because I love it so much (plus I like to catch up with Nikki). Thank you for helping me look less haggered - haha! x
