My top 5 anti ageing secrets aren’t all about skincare and treatments. There may even be some surprises in here for you! At the top of my list of anti ageing secrets is sunscreen! If you action only one thing from my anti ageing secrets – please let it be this one.
We are exposed to UV rays every single day, come rain or shine. UVA rays (A is for Ageing), are responsible for up to 90% of premature ageing. This makes sunscreen literally your best anti ageing product EVER! If you aren’t using sunscreen daily, then you are wasting your money on expensive skincare and treatments – in my opinion. UV rays are responsible for increased lines & wrinkles, age spots, pigmentation, and dehydration – to name just a few.
Ideally choose a natural sunscreen, with ingredients such as zinc oxide and titanium dioxide, as it is kinder, and better for your skin. Make sure your sunscreen is minimum factor 30 (ideally 50), UVA and UVB, and is a 4/5* rating. Apply daily, and throughout the day.
The second of my anti ageing secrets is to invest in a silk pillow case.
Silk pillowcases help to reduce lines and wrinkles, as there is less friction, so your skin isn’t being dragged or scrunched up as much. They also absorb less moisture than other pillow cases, which helps your skin to retain more of it’s natural moisture levels.
They are also AMAZING for your hair too, double bonus!
You don’t have to buy an expensive one, there are some perfectly good, reasonably priced ones on Amazon. Just make sure it’s 100 silk.
If you like to wear an eye mask when you sleep, then make sure that is silk too.
Third on my list of anti ageing secrets is sleep. Sleep is crucial to your skin health. Whilst you’re sleeping, your skin’s blood flow increases, and it rebuilds its collagen and repairs damage from UV exposure, reducing wrinkles and age spots. There’s a reason it’s called beauty sleep. Make sure you get 7-9 hours a night, as often as you can.
I’m actually going to sneak a little extra one in here – and mention stress! Stress is terrible for our skin, and can cause us to age prematurely (it can also play havoc with our sleep). When you’re in a stage of stress – your body diverts focus away from processes it doesn’t consider ‘important’, in a fight or flight response. This is often why we experience issues with our skin, hair, nails and digestion when we’re stressed. In at No.4 of my Top 5 Anti Ageing Secrets is diet and nutrition. As I have a background in nutritional therapy, I know the importance of nourishing your skin from within. It might interest you to know that 9/10 clients that come to me with acne and rosacea, never need an aesthetic treatment. The most effective treatment is nearly always lifestyle & diet changes, and a targeted skincare routine.
Nourishing your skin through the foods you eat, is really important. My advice is to ‘eat the rainbow’, as different colour fruit and vegetables have different nutrients and benefits.
I recommend keeping a skin/lifestyle/nutrition diary for 12 weeks, to identify any patterns, where certain foods might be triggering breakouts in your skin. It’s a great way to discover what your body loves, and what it doesn’t. Inflammation in your body will almost always show up on your skin. It’s a reflection of what’s going on internally.

Well, I couldn’t write a blog about my top 5 anti ageing secrets, without mentioning skincare! But really, skincare is the icing on the cake, after you consider all of the other elements. Products alone won’t balance the effects of not using sunscreen, poor sleep, high stress levels and poor diet. But if you combine all of these – then you’re truly winning!
When it comes to anti ageing secrets with skincare, there are two ingredients I love. Retinol and Vitamin C. These are absolute super hero products, when fighting ageing skin concerns. Not all products are created equal though, so I recommend seeking advice from a skincare professional, to ensure you are using the right ones for your skin.
Retinol speeds up cell renewal, boosts collagen and elastin production. It also helps with skin tone, improves texture and overall skin health.
