Scar removal laser treatment

Scar removal laser treatment is one of the treatments I am contacted about most often, when it comes to improving scars.

Here’s the first truly important thing – scar treatments are about improving, not removing. Unfortunately, there is no such thing as a full scar removal treatment, but there are treatments that significantly improve the look and feel of scar tissue – which can help transform your scar, and confidence!

Scar removal laser treatment is one option for scar improvement, although – in my opinion, it’s rarely a starting treatment. I find that fractional laser treatments are much better after a course of microneedling, and I’ll explain why below.

Lets talk scar removal laser treatment!

Fractional laser is a very popular choice, when it comes to scar removal treatment. And with good reason,  think of this as the ULTIMATE exfoliation, as it removes the surface layers of the skin, revealing beautiful, fresh, healthy skin underneath.  This is why is also a popular antiaging facial treatment too!

The reason I don’t tend to start my scar improvement treatment programs with fractional laser, is because scar tissue can often run very deep – and the levels that you’d need to have the laser at to  be truly effective, would cause significant trauma to the surface of your skin, leaving you with longer downtime and healing.

I prefer to use fractional laser on your scars if you need to even out scar tissue, after a course of microneedling.  Scar removal laser treatment can be great to level out burn scar tissue, raised self harm scars, or other uneven scar tissue – although it’s not always necessary.

So lets look at the power of microneedling below, which I favour, over scar removal laser treatments.

Meet RF (radiofrequency) microneedling

A form of microneedling is, by far, the most powerful scar treatment, in my opinion, with RF microneedling being the ultimate power house. RF microneedling combines the magic of skin needling, with the thermal element of radiofrequency – making it a highly effective combination.

Microneedling creates tiny micro punctures in your skin, which kick starts your body’s natural healing process. As part of this process, your body responds by producing fresh, healthy collagen and elastin, and also melanin – which is responsible for your natural skin tone.

The RF element is thermal stimulation, where the needles emit radiofrequency (heat) into your skin, which further boosts collagen production and causes your skin to tighten and contract in response to the treatment – thereby giving you the tightening and lifting effect.

Scar removal laser treatment - a combined approach

Whilst scar removal laser treatment can be highly effective, I find that the best results come from a combined approach.

Think of microneedling as treating the scars at a deeper level, at really controlled, specific depths. RF microneedling is that added boost for uneven scars, to help create smoother skin.

Then fractional laser comes along, like the ultimate exfoliation, and resurfaces the area. It’s targeting the upper layers of the skin, although does also trigger collagen production in the deeper layers too.

Sometimes IPL (light) treatments can also help, where scars are red or pigmented. IPL can target the red/darker areas in the skin, which is great, if you’ve been left with discoloration to scars.
