How much does micro needling cost?
How much does micro needling cost? ‘It depends’ is really not helpful to you is it!
And rather than just say something like ‘it depends’ or ‘price on assessment’ (POA), I wanted to explain to you the costs for micro needling and the reasons for varying treatment times and programs.
The starting cost for micro needling scar treatment is £200 per session. This would be for a small scar on the face or body, up to 5cm in diameter. Typically you will need 5-8 sessions spaced 5-6 weeks apart. You can continue to have treatments until you either happy with your results, or your scar stops responding to treatment.
Micro needling costs for scarring larger than 5cm starts at £250.00 per session, for example knee surgery scar, such as the one shown in my gallery.
The cost of micro needling for larger areas of scarring, such as a burn, stretch marks and cosmetic surgery starts at £250.00 per session.
The cost of Radiofrequency microneedling starts at £190 per session, for a small area. Click HERE for full pricing for radiofrequency microneedling.
Why do the costs of micro needling vary so much?
It may help if I explain a bit more about micro needling and what it actually does.
Micro needling causes minor controlled trauma to your scar, causing a breakdown of old scar tissue. As a result of the minor controlled trauma, production of new collagen elastin and melanin are triggered. Micro needling triggers your body’s healing response, encouraging it to re heal itself in a very controlled and gentle way. The reason it’s difficult to be exact on the number of treatments that you need is because everybody’s skin is different. Your skin is the largest organ in your body and is completely unique to you.
There are many different factors that will affect how many treatments you need and how quickly you respond to treatment. That can be down to your skin type, your lifestyle, your age and the type of scars you have. These are the things that we will discuss at your consultation, either in person or remotely.
Why is £200 the minimum charge?
The reason the minimum charge for micro needling is £200.00 per treatment, is because there are basic treatment costs attached to every treatment, including time, consumables and clinic running costs. Aside from time, the costs of carrying out a treatment are approximately the same, whether your treatment is 1 hour or 4 hours. Even for the smallest of scars, I still need to allow time in Clinic for you to get comfortable, have your treatment and for me to clean down before/after your treatment.
How many sessions of Micro Needling will I need?
This is another reason why it’s impossible to give an exact answer to the question ‘How much does micro needling cost?’. Remember how I told you above that your skin is unique to you? Well – that’s true and that’s the reason why it’s impossible to be exact on how your skin will respond and how many treatment you will need.
The number of sessions of micro needling that you will need will depend on many factors, as I previously mentioned. The type of scar that you have also plays a part in this. For example, if you have burn scarring you will need a gentle introduction to treatment, as burn tissue is very fragile below the surface. If you take a look at Nikki’s scarring (click here) , this was over the course of a year and at this point Nikki had had around 11 treatments with me. There were areas that needed to be treated very gently in the initial 4-6 treatments, to avoid damaging the skin further. So Nikki’s treatment plan has been longer than the ‘typical’ 3-5 sessions. She will return for further treatment, as her skin was still responding well to treatment after the last session.
In terms of how many micro needling treatments you can have, there are two deciding factors.
Number 1: You get to a point that you are happy with the way your scars are look and feel.
Number 2: Your skin stops responding to treatment. If you get to a point where you stop seeing results, then that would tell us that the treatment has done everything that it can for you. Further treatments are unlikely to bring you any additional improvement if you stop seeing results.
This is not the same for Radiofrequency microneedling, which is an extremely powerful form of microneedling. You can click HERE for more information.
How do you assess my scars for Micro Needling?
I will initially assess your scars as part of my consultation process, which starts with a Zoom call. You can either send me your photos via email or text, or upload them onto the pre-consultation form. If you’d prefer, you can show me on our Zoom call.
Once I’ve assessed your scar(s) I will be able to confirm the price of each session to you, together with the duration of each appointment. This will be the fixed price for each session that you come to. I will often combine medical microneedling with radiofrequency microneedling, for the best possible results. The price of your treatment will not change, but the duration of your appointment will differ.
I hope that gives you a bit more of an understanding in terms of why it’s not possible to have an exact price list for Micro Needling for your scarring. Essentially, the cost of the treatment depends on the size of the area to be treated and the time it’s going to take to treat it.
