3 Counties Breast Cancer Support Group

As part of my continuing ‘SPOTLIGHT’ series in October, I’m delighted to feature the wonderful 3 Counties Breast Cancer Support Group.

I met the wonderful Jackie about 2 years ago, when she kindly invited me to give a talk to the lovely ladies that attend her support group. I was instantly struck by Jackie’s warmth and desire to create interesting, informative and fun sessions for the ladies that attend the meetings.

I have been to many support groups over the years, each being entirely different. The 3 Counties Breast Cancer Support Group is a group of ladies very close to my heart. The first time I visited I was heckled by good humoured, fun ladies that were interested in what I had to say – but were certainly going to have some fun along the way!

The group were so warm and welcoming, with many having been attending for years. The group is open to all ladies that are going through breast cancer treatment, or are a survivor of breast cancer.  I have been to the Group on a few occasions now, each time with either new members, or ladies in the middle of treatment. All of the ladies are so supportive and uplifting of each other.

At the heart of it all is lovely Jackie! After my initial talk, I have re-visited the Group, taking along a couple of guest speakers. We had a really fun evening with a wonderful Makeup Artist, who demonstrated (on me I might add!) some gorgeous Christmas party makeup – ready for the 3 Counties Breast Cancer Support Group Christmas Party!  There was also a fabulous Stylist that talked about colours and styling, another fun and interesting evening.

I’ll let Jackie tell you a little more about the 3 Counties Breast Cancer Support Group

“I run The 3 Counties Breast Cancer Support Group and have done for many years now.  We are a very informal group of Ladies who find ourselves in a similar situation it is nice to be with others who understand. We meet on the first Wednesday of the Month except July and August we go out for a Meal at a local Restaurant.
In June we have a Strawberry Tea, October we have a Pink Party as it is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and December we go out for a Christmas Celebration again somewhere local. Last year we went to Pineridge Golf Club for a Party Night and we were 26 in total so a very good turn out.
At the meetings, we sometimes we have a guest Speaker or else we just enjoy each others Company and have a chat.  Our Meetings are held at The Frimley Baptist Church Frimley and start at 7.30pm till about 10pm we have Tea and Coffee cost is £2 just to cover some expenses.  The Church kindly  lets us have the room for free and are great towards making us always feel so welcome.  You do not have to come to all the Meetings you just come when you want too, no obligation, if you don’t come for a while and want to come back no problem either, just turn up.  We hope to make everyone welcome and we just want to try and have some fun along this journey we have all been set, so let me know and hope to see you at our Meetings.  You can also give me a call anytime if you so wish.

Kindred Spirits Choir

We also have a Choir ‘Kindred Spirits’ which is made up of Ladies who have had Breast Cancer and that is the only qualification for joining, singing if you can great, but if not just come along and join in the fun you do not have to be able to sing believe me I cannot !! but its is great fun too come along and have a taster.  We meet on a Thursday at Cove Methodist Church 7.30 till 9 and our Musical Director is Stephen Petch, google him and you will see we are extremely lucky to have him looking after us let me know if you would also like to give the Kindred Spirits Choir a try too. “
You can contact Jackie 01344774149 or Linda on 07973150135. They would love to hear from you.  So if you, a friend or a family member would like to know more, then please get in touch with Jackie or Linda.   You can also click HERE to visit Frimley Baptist Church website, which has more details on the group.
Kindest x
