Look Good Feel Better

I cannot tell you how BRILLIANT I think LOOK GOOD FEEL BETTER are. They are an incredible charity that provides free skincare and makeup workshops to ladies experiencing cancer.

The workshops are run by volunteers in the beauty industry and is entirely funded through the generosity of corporate and individual supporters.

I volunteer at workshops is Guildford and Reading and I’m also on the Confidence Club fundraising team, so I have seen first hand the difference these workshops make.

I was completely blown away by the products that are gifted to the ladies that attend the workshop. It is wonderful to see how delighted the ladies are with the top of the range products that have been so kindly donated.

Cancer treatment really has such an impact on the condition of skin, not to mention the visible signs of skin flushing, dryness and loss of eyebrows and eyelashes. What is so wonderful about these workshops, is that ladies are shown how to use all of the products they are gifted- each and every one!

The workshops

The workshops last two hours and are a 12-step system, with advising on cleansing, toning and moisturising. They also teach people how to minimise infection during treatment. The products and techniques demonstrated are gentle and help the ladies to care for their skin, using different products to treat dryness or flushing, for example.

Then it’s on to the makeup! Even for those that would not usually wear makeup, this part of the session is great fun! Here the ladies learn new tips and techniques to create flawless skin, make eyes ‘pop’ and to create the illusion of brows and lashes. I have yet to see one lady that has loved this part of the session – I think we all love a good pampering and learning new tricks and tips.

I think what I notice most though is the confidence these sessions give ladies that attend. Almost always it’s very quiet at the start, with no-one quite knowing what to expect. But as soon as the session kicks in, the room gradually comes to life and there is the most amazing atmosphere in the room. By the halfway point, the noise levels have trippled and the laughter and chatting is considerable! It’s such a wonderful environment. And without fail, every single lady leaves the workshop with a smile on their face – and often a new friend! Plus a bag full of gorgeous products as well as their new makeup skills!

So why the blog post?

Because I LOVE LOVE LOVE this charity, it radiates nothing but positivity as far as I am concerned. So PLEASE SPREAD THE WORD – tell EVERYONE about this amazing charity and the work it does. I guarantee we all know someone that would benefit form these workshops. AND – if you can volunteer and help – please do. LGFB are always looking for volunteers, it’s what they rely on to continue their amazing work.
