Breast Cancer Clients
I have chosen to specialise in Medical and Cosmetic tattooing treatments that benefit ladies on their breast cancer journey. If you have read the 'About' section, you'll already know my reason for training, so I won't repeat myself here!
I have met many ladies through my time in the aesthetics and beauty industry that have experienced breast cancer and I have been very aware that there seems to be little information about treatments and products available that help with feeling more 'you'. Whilst the medical care is exceptional, the things that help ladies to feel confident and deal with the side effects of treatment seem to be a bit of a mystery.
I am working with the local community to build a network of therapists, technicians and product specialists in order to provide access to information and treatments. If you click on the 'My Experts' here, or from the Breast Cancer drop down menu, you will find details of local recommendations.
Below you will find a little more information on the treatments that can really make such a difference. So if either you or a friend/family are dealing with breast cancer, please do get in touch. I offer a free, no obligation consultation for ladies that are going through, or have experienced breast cancer.
3D Areola and Nipple Tattooing
Areola and nipple tattooing is a technique that has been around for a few years now, although the quality and techniques used often left patients with a flat and unnatural looking areola and nipple. There has also been inconsistent availability for this treatment, with not all hospitals and Consultants being able to offer this treatment.
Using advanced Medical Tattooing techniques and bespoke pigments, it is now possible to create an incredibly realistic 3D areola and nipple.
Areola and nipple tattooing is suitable for;
Single mastectomy; the new areola is measured out to match the existing one and a colour match is carried out with pigments. I then tattoo the new areola and nipple on, using the existing breast as a guideline and copying as much detail as possible. (some ladies do choose to darken or slightly adjust the areola on the existing breast at this time too).
Double mastectomy; We have a full consultation on the colour, size and detail of the new areola and nipple. I will then measure out the positioning of the areola and nipples, before colour matching to your natural skin tone. Often ladies like to bring in pictures to show the look they hope to achieve.
If you have had a nipple reconstruction as part of your surgery, this is usually tattooed with a prescriptive pigment to ensure that it blends with the areola.
There are further details regarding this treatment in the FAQ section.
It is worth mentioning here that for private medical insurance patients, there is often an allowance for areola and nipple tattooing within your benefits, so this is worth looking into.
Once you've undergone surgery, you may be left with scarring that you would like to improve the appearance of.
The Plastic Surgeon's are really doing some incredible work these days, scarring is kept as minimal as possible. However, if you would like to reduce the visibility of your scarring, it is possible in many cases to use dry needling techniques, which stimulate collagen, elastin and melanin production. This treatment not only improves the look of scarring, but also helps with tight scars that feel restricted and in some cases, can help stimulate nerves and improve sensation.
One of the most upsetting parts of the treatment for many of my clients has been hair loss. Many of my clients have had the most fabulous hair pieces made for them, but are really self conscious about not having eyebrows or eyelashes.
I am often asked to carry out semi-permanent eyebrow and eyelash enhancement treatments prior to the start of chemotherapy. This way, my clients feel more comfortable with the thought of hair loss during their treatment. As a general rule, you can't have semi-permanent makeup treatments carried out 5 weeks pre or post chemotherapy. However, many Consultants will give their consent, as long as your treatment is finished within a week of starting treatment (Medical Consent will be required, I have a simple form for this).
